If your professional goals are to do the exact same thing day in an day out until you retire, this is the type of welding you end up doing, it's muscle memory much more than skill tbh. I've seen these welders fall apart when they're taken out of their cozy shop to do a type of joint they've never welded 1000x before without being able to sit down comfortably and having to setup their own parameters by using their narrow experience.

I remember this clip from the YouTube channel "welding tips and tricks". Jodie is a good teacher. He is using a kind of speed-contolled turn-table here, "walking the cup" over lay-wire makes a beautiful weld bead, though not the strongest for a root pass.
