One guy makes a mistake and people die.

submitted by Portmanure to news 4 monthsJan 2, 2024 13:31:32 ago (+12/-0)     (news)

https://www.bbc.com/news/world-67862011 Sorry about the bbc link but that was the quickest path to the story. I don’t know exactly what happened but I’ve been flying long enough to know that one guy fucked up and got people killed. It’s Japan, he’s probably going to jail for a very long time. I feel bad for that guy. I was new once, my mistakes were caught in time. That poor son of a bitch killed people.

All 379 passengers and crew on board were evacuated

5 of 6 on the coast guard airplane died. That’s too many in my book.

Same thing as archive: https://archive.ph/Ghlsj

You think the ATC fucked the dog here Port?

Edit, Opps, late to the party, thanks for your eternal vigilance Fascinus!

Yeah I do, that’s usually how these things happen. I think ATC screwed the pooch here. Flight crews hurtlying along in 300 thousand pounds of aluminum tend to be really really careful. I’m thinking ATC royally fucked up. But I’ll wait until the facts come in.

I had to really think about this one. At first, I thought you were talking about how the surviving captain was probably going to jail, but then I realized that you were probably talking about somebody from air traffic control.

This might have been an accident by a newbie; it could have also been an accident by an overworked veteran tech. Depending on the degree of negligence, I might debate whether or not he's going to jail, but he's definitely going to have to learn to live with a new reality that his actions directly led to the deaths of 5 and maybe even 6 people.

Little fellow is probably going to jail. Most likely his supervisor too.

I’ve been on the bad end of an ATC mistake. The tapes exonerated me. But ATC crashes hard on their own. I feel bad for them. However, when they make a mistake people die so there’s that.

Tenirefe was a perfect example of an ATC mistake. Sure blame the captain but ATC failed to communicate. I’m very angry about this accident.

Course, however I do love my ATC. The conversation with those peeps late at night, alone, flying in the dark. Flying a heading and a radio beacon. Just happy to be chatting with some one. Love those people.
