Anyone here have good resources for how to get started on building a website?
I'm looking for features like polling, static pages like FAQs, a form submission section, etc. I look at a website like this and see all of those functions basically already in place. To me that means there must be the expertise here that led to that.
I asked for a quote from a company and they came back with something like $12k CAD + subscription fees for a static website (basically a login + FAQ only) hosted on their servers. To me this seemed like an outrageous rip-off.
The site would have to be able to handle up to 700 simultaneous users at once, but with a likely usual load of maybe 20.
These days, no idea. I'm still stuck in the early 00's when it comes to web dev. I know 12k is a complete rip off though. If you did go that route, and they host it, make sure you have 100% control of the site's files.
With chatgpt anyone could create a website with no experience. There might be a lot of trial and error but it's definitely possible.
This is basic bitch shit. There are a gazillion places on the Web that let you set up a site with pre-built functions, like Squarespace. Do some basic research on your own before bah-bah'ing like a sheep or getting quotations. At least that way you'll have some idea of what's going on.
There are also places where you can bid on Pajeet coders to do it for cheap, if you want custom work. And of course now there's ChatGPT and other AIs to do the work too, but you're going to run into trouble if you don't have some idea of what you're doing.

Want someone to fix your shit and make sure it works as intended, where you can sit back and enjoy? Pay the $12k.
You can either be lazy or cheap, not both.
