I had ordered some Christmas cake from Germany in October, Baumkuchen. Still has not arrived, is considered lost at sea. Already got my money back. I can only imagine that my cake is in one of those containers, slowly filling with salt water and sinking.

Christmas cake?? Like that shit that looks like a brick with some garbage stuck in it?

Merry Christmas!

this is the cake i am referring to. Not necessarily a Christmas cake, but a cake popular during Christmas.

Just imagine the danger to shipping those semi floating containers present

They’ll sink eventually.

A lot of them are airtight

They have vents at the top corners. Waterproof at sea, but not under water. I’ve owned a few of these containers.

Perhaps its the contents that provide the buoyancy as some float either just on or just below the surface and any small vessel hitting them at speed gets destroyed.
