I decided to cook some bacon, and then I chose violence.

If I wore a shirt, it would need washed due to bacon splatter.
Shirtless bacon cooking hurt less knowing I still would have a clean shirt.
I overcooked it, my reticence to attend to the danger zone was certainly a factor.

Overcooking bacon is fine as long as you don't introduce water into the cooking process. You have to go slower until the water is cooked off, otherwise you'll have grease splatters.

Glass lids at an angle are better than screens. They let the vapor out and block splatters. Screens need a napkin cover, because grease splatters go right through them.

I just turn the heat down and cook my bacon nice and slow- still get the desired crisp just takes 5 or 10 minutes. No spatter - no smoke - no burn.

You are now elevated to: Bacon MASTER! Congrats!

I had flush glass lid on cast iron, steam was condensing on lid falling to pan... and AugustineOfHippo said pan was too hot, I think is correct.

Just saw this contrary take about water in tha pan...:

How to cook bacon without splatters
The trick: All you need is water. Yep, it’s that simple. Pour just enough water over your slices in the skillet so they’re >submerged. Then, crank the heat up to high. When the water boils, turn the heat down to medium. Won’t that leave you with >soggy bacon, though? Nope. The H20 will completely evaporate, giving you perfectly crispy yet succulent—not brittle—results. >And a way cleaner stove. (Not to mention, burn-free arms.)

Why does it work, though? Simmering water keeps the initial cooking temperature low, so the meat keeps its tenderness. By the >time the water boils away, most of the fat has rendered—so you’re less likely to burn the bacon and the grease won’t spatter.

I'm going to try that technique tomorrow. Thanks.

make it in the microwave. Cover plate with paper towel, lay out bacon strips cut in half, cover with paper towel. 4 minutes on high. Perfect bacon.

I too enjoy bachelor cooking.

It's fast and easy and fool-proof.

[ - ] bobdole9 0 points 4 monthsDec 24, 2023 09:23:18 ago (+0/-0)

Is it a pain to clean up or does the paper towel on top keep any splatter under control?

[ - ] Anus_Expander 1 point 4 monthsDec 24, 2023 09:25:00 ago (+1/-0)

No. Yes.

[ - ] BoozyB 0 points 4 monthsDec 24, 2023 09:51:17 ago (+0/-0)

Can confirm. Microwave bacon is almost mess-free.
Oven bacon works well if you need to feed a crowd.

Ovenbacon is great but takes a bit longer. I am not a patient man.
