The music of the 70's and 80's was so much better than today's noise. Keep in mind that in any period, 90% of music is junk and quickly forgotten. The cream would rise to the top and today, the radio stations still play that good stuff. Now it's oldies.
Today's noise is not memorable. The future of oldies will remain the oldies we know and love already, and there will be no oldies stations ever playing 21st Century shit. Pretty bleak.
The 80s weren't awesome, they were just better than the way things are today. There was some music that stood out among the crap, and I could live without ever hearing synthpop music. Fashion and styles then were ridiculous and pretentious, but still better than what people are wearing now.
As Sturgeon's Law says, 90% of everything is crap. What we remember of the 80s is just the stuff that in that 10%.
