Did I Fuck Up My Neck or Wut?

submitted by FreeinTX to AskUpgoat 4 monthsDec 19, 2023 19:54:23 ago (+10/-1)     (AskUpgoat)

3 mounts ago, I spent all day being a phonefag. At the end of the day, my neck hurt real bad, stiff and sore as fuck.

It never got better. I even went on a 2 week vacation, taking it real easy, no better.

The day after the incident, my neck starting popping. It's ridiculous. Total cement mixer noises. The pops sometimes give me a little relief, but not always, and excessive intentional popping makes it stiff and sore.

What the fuck could I have done? I'm going to an orthopedic next Wednesday, but I'm not tryna pay some jag off doctor's boat payment for him with an unnecessary surgery.

Give me some ideas about what may be going on. How fucked am I? I can still work, lift and swi. It's just constantly stiff and sore and if I go a week without lifting and swimming, it gets painful.

I’ve been dealing with bad neck stuff for the past year, year and a half. I had a herniated disc from “forward head posture” after having a neck injury years prior that I never did anything for except get prescribed muscle relaxers. My neck caused so many other problems, such as vertigo (so bad I thought I was having a stroke and got a ride to the hospital in an ambulance), terrible neck stiffness, TMJ pain, horrendous shoulder pain and tinnitus. But I digress!!!

It’s all about restoring the curve in your neck. I was such a mess from December of last year till March. I was dizzy and felt awful. I started seeing a great chiropractor who helped me understand what was happening to me and why. I started seeing him for a few months to loosen all of my vertebrae, and eventually ended up with my “lifesaver,” which is called a denneroll. Don’t get an imitation. It’s about $65-$75 and you have to get it at a chiropractor’s office.

https://www.denneroll.com/

It sounds like you’re not too jacked up yet, but this little orthopedic wonder keeps me in check. Since adding this (I lay on it for between 10-20 minutes a day) I haven’t had to go back to the chiropractor for an adjustment. I’ve also lost all shoulder pain, vertigo, dizziness, and my tinnitus is minimal.

Also, consider doing chin tucks

https://youtu.be/gIBoxQ6AlS0?si=rzFbX4k7HdlGORT7 (this guy is a faggot, but he gets what to do very well).

It’s all about getting that curve back and strengthening those deep neck flexors so your head won’t go back into that position that screwed you up.

Good luck!!!

I have had back and neck issues for decades (from car accident and on the job injury), and the Chiro always helps me when I have issues. I have a Denneroll myself, used it regularly for a while, but only use it on occasion now. With an orthopedic pillow I can sleep on my back without waking up with severe neck pain, so I recommend getting one from your Chiro as well. Good luck OP.

Can confirm, I have a Denneroll as well after seeing McLaughlin Chiropractic in Sarasota.

Eliminate gluten and added sugar completely, say goodbye to milk and dairy. Nothing wrong with eating grass-fed beef or high quality chicken, just avoid McMeat. Eat a diet high in Omega 3's. Get wild caught salmon, w/o color added. Eat ORGANIC nut butter like almond butter, sunflower seed butter, and cashew butter. I eat the Once Again almond and cashew butter. Sunbutter has an organic option but you have to go out of your way to get it. I like Artisana's cashew butter but I'm not a fan of their almond butter. Another great option is organic Nuttzo, but it has to specify organic, and the labels are very similar-looking. So for example you might see Sunbutter Creamy in your grocery store, but that's an entirely different product than Sunbutter Organic which you'd have to go to a Whole Foods, Natural Grocer, or Fresh Market to get.

I also like the y-strap adjustments and/or "Ring Dinger" chiropractors. The one in Houston is legit. What I like about YouTube chiropractors is that you generally get what you pay for, unlike your local chiro who's trying to get you in and out in 15 minutes where you're maybe lucky to get "laser" treatment or "e-stim" therapy, which has never helped.

Also consider Rolfing. Again, you get what you pay for.

Try getting used to sleeping on the floor instead of a bed for a while.

Get used to hopping in a cold shower on the coldest setting and keeping it on cold the entire time.

See if you have someone who has a DRX9000-C (the C stands for Cervical) in your area, but they're NOT cheap.

The name of the game is to reduce inflammation as much as humanly possible so you avoid surgery at all costs.

Have you tried hanging yourself…..

…upside down on one of those teeter things that hang you by your feet? They actually help quite a bit for that stuff.

I was the world's biggest sceptic, but a chiropractor and a Chink acupuncturist both helped me for different afflictions, when the doctors wanted to push pills or cut me open. Those particular problems never bothered me again.

Sorry, you have mobile AIDS. There is no cure.

You could try a physical therapist, or a chiropractor. Not sure a medical doctor is the right way to go. Does the gym you work out at have any physical therapy options? Maybe talk to others there and get some suggestions.

Brother, I don't even play a doctor on the internet. Good luck with it.

You need a chiropractor.

[ - ] PORTforceOne 0 points 4 monthsDec 20, 2023 08:57:54 ago (+0/-0)

Nah that'll ruin his back permanently.

Tech neck

You might have a slight slipped disc.

I would tell you how to fix it without surgery, but I have boat payments to make.

[ - ] Cantaloupe 2 points 4 monthsDec 20, 2023 01:34:40 ago (+3/-1)*

First go to a doctor to make sure there is nothing really fucked up.

Chiropractics was founded by a con artist father and son. The son later murdered the dad and it has a lot in common with scientology, with a focus on contraptions.

It may still help, they may have hit on some useful ideas.

Also massage, and ice or heat may help. You may need to make sure you have adequate neck support when sitting.

As one with an enormous head, propper support is important.

Stretching and proper posture are important.

Also tell you wife the doctor said more sex will fix it.

Just be sure to check with a doctor first, to keep your head attached

The body is very good at fixing itself but it can take time.

You're a total arsehole but you have my sympathy.

I've had neck trouble since May 23
I never had any success in the past with chiropractors and was convinced by friends to try a local guy, highly recommended. That guy started giving me impact driver whacks in the neck without knowing wether my problem was skeletal or muscular. In other words another total quack, just like all my previous experiences with chiropractors
It got worse and I finally went to the ER and had some MRI done.
Turned out no herniation just muscle spasms pinching nerves. 6 weeks of physical therapy helped just to about 90% recovered. Had some setbacks but am now about 98% recovered.

Tldr,
Physical therapy is proactive and is the best way to heal and improve.
Fuck chiropractors.
It may take 6 months to heal, maybe more.
As someone else mentioned,
It's likely a combo of weak muscles and shortened tendons, so PT stretching and muscle building will get you back better than before.
Be patient and stick with it and DO YOUR EXERCISES 💪🏻💪🏻

Cervical/thoracic disc compression an dor slipped/herniated disc most likely. Get a towel and roll it up into a hotdog then lay back on it and stretch your arms out, or go see a chiropractor.

[ - ] BoozyB 2 points 4 monthsDec 19, 2023 21:14:38 ago (+2/-0)*

I do a series of stretching and resistance exercises most mornings before I get out of bed.
Pull my head forward, chin to chest.
Arch head back as far as I can.
Palms on forehead, push and resist.
Turn head to each side, lift and pull with hand to stretch.
Push head with hand above ear, keep head straight and resist.
Start with a 10-count, see how it goes.
Neck pain is epidemic because of phones and computer screens.
Go to a massage therapist, take mental notes on how he or she loosens you up and figure out how to DIY.
Or, keep going to the therapist.
I go one a month, it's great.
She says 75% of her business can be attributed to screen time.

Do you have a doctor who can write you a prescription for muscle relaxers?

They might help.

[ - ] WhiteGoat 2 points 4 monthsDec 19, 2023 20:05:40 ago (+2/-0)

You need to work out. It's like your muscle strands are all balled up. Working out pulls them straight. Shoulder, neck, and back exercises

[ - ] FreeinTX [op] 1 point 4 monthsDec 19, 2023 20:17:03 ago (+1/-0)

I've been working out 2 times a week ever since it happened (and for years prior). Lifting and swimming.

I get some relief, but it isn't healing.

[ - ] beece 3 points 4 monthsDec 19, 2023 22:34:17 ago (+3/-0)

My chiropractor became a chiro because he hurt his neck working out, and a chrio fixed it after the Dr's had failed. Worth a try.

[ - ] x0x7 1 point 4 monthsDec 20, 2023 00:12:13 ago (+1/-0)

I thought I permanently fucked up my back recently. Straight up thought I was going to be paralyzed because I couldn't find a position to sleep in where it didn't feel like my vertebra was completely unstable at one spot. I put off doing anything about it "just taking it easy". The problem is my sleep itself was doing more harm than good.

Then I did some hot cold therapy and I was ok within two days. I'm not saying hot cold therapy is always the answer, but it never hurts. If there is any hope of something healing on its own with time the hot cold therapy makes that happen quicker, which means if it doesn't work you rule out time being the solution quicker and the quicker you can go get some real help if that's what you need.

[ - ] Not_C 1 point 4 monthsDec 19, 2023 23:54:47 ago (+1/-0)

My neck was fucked up for almost a month.
Shots of pain whenever I moved it, extremely stiff all the time.
I followed along with every yoga and stretching video I could find online. Nothing worked.

Meanwhile, I messed up my shoulder as a teenager and I stretch it and make it pop so either the tendons snap back into place or built up fluid is released. I have to do this once a month, or sometimes a couple of times a week.

I could tell that my shoulder needed to pop, so I stretched it. And the pain in my neck instantly and completely went away.
Almost a month of pain and stiffness in my neck, and it somehow was all caused by my shoulder.

See a chiropractor

[ - ] dulcima 1 point 4 monthsDec 19, 2023 22:29:18 ago (+1/-0)

Might need physiotherapy. But you'll need to find out what the problem is first, so grit your teeth and go to the doctor and get scans done. Once you know what's wrong you can fix it.

[ - ] HeyJames 1 point 4 monthsDec 19, 2023 22:27:32 ago (+1/-0)

I would get a CT scan so you can see what's going on. Surgery for back and neck issues is a last resort and honestly not even as successful as conservative treatments.

Get that MRI and develop a PT/rehab injury specific program from there. This is the only way to get better.

You may have excess of calcium on your neck bones. Anyway, when I had problems with my neck, I bought an orthopedic pillow and it helped.
