I didn't read but one thing people should consider is which variety of Europeans made up the population of Minneapolis. This area was largely settled by non-Americans in the 19th century. People from Germany, Denmark, Norway, Sweden. They never shared affinity with the Anglo American ethnicity and their behavior in response to outsiders can be seen as similar to that of jews - more variety makes them more "American."
your feelings are irrelevant, this is a thinking matter.
posterity Americans are basically English, Welsh, Scottish, plus some Dutch and French. some Irish and Germans were here from the beginning, I'm sure your genealogy can tell you that. I would consider anyone with at least 1/4th heritage that derives from posterity Americans to be "American" ethnically.

Half of Americans are German, and Anglos and Germans hate each other often enough.
I don't know about those people, but i don't feel that having non-Anglo (White) heritage makes me less American.
