https://ca.pcpartpicker.com is a great tool for picking out components. You can compare prices, find the most cost effective dealer. The site even checks for compatibility between parts.
There was a time where I would say just build your own. And if you still care about that stuff. Go for it. It will be a fun endeavor. Don’t cheap out on a case or you will slice yourself a lot.
Or spare yourself all the trouble and just buy a cheap laptop or tablet. Park that thing near your favorite chair and you can effectively shitpost in the evenings on upgoat like I do. The tablet is hardly an operating system. Android. Apple. It’s all the same crap when you’re just browsing the web. And the Photo Album will slowly fill up with memes and, in a few years, you’ll have plenty of content to re-post.
I built a computer some years back but I don’t play games anymore. So it gathers dust in the basement. Oddly the graphics card sits on a shelf in my office. Been there. Done that. Computers are gay.
Any hardware will suffice. It’s the software that slows the computer in the modern era. What a shame because we live in a time of luxury with the amount of available memory, storage, and processing power.
My iMac is 11, I have 283 tabs in Chrome, and I can run Telegram at the same time. Never had a problem with OS updates, but finally reached the end of updatability this past summer.
Also have a year old windoz gamer, which effectively died after a few months due to some "driver" bullshit. Stick with a Mac.
It's been awhile since I was a kid under 50. My first computer was a Mac Classic in 1984. That was almost 10 years after I returned from the west side of the East German border. I was sitting in class when the loudspeaker announced Kennedy was shot.

You need to know what programs you want to run. That makes a difference as to what to buy
When you narrow down some choices
You can check performance metrics

https://cpu.userbenchmark.com/
Make sure it does not have bitlocker on it or any Microsoft bios limitations
