There's vastly more to sniper's job description than just shooting.

But that's okay. That certificate is just a learners permit. Go ahead on and find out the hard way, sweetness. I don't mind.

They keep saying what a good shot she is, but I didn't see anything in her background that specifically mentioned any hunting.
So afaik, all she's done so far has been punching paper. But there are some things that can't be trained on a range.

One of the indicators we used to look for in a potential sniper candidate was a background that included hunting, medium (deer-sized) game or bigger. It meant that the candidate had already had the experience of getting up and going out at zero dark thirty, in the dark, in the cold, being quietly uncomfortable for long periods, all to look at a large, living, breathing, mammal through the sights and pull the trigger, knowing that they, personally, were responsible for ending it's life. And then dressing it out, taking it home and eating it.

Most combat is very chaotic and impersonal. You and your unit shooting at muzzle flashes in the treeline hundreds of meters away, that are shooting back at you. And the only reason you're trying to kill them is because they're doing their level best to kill you back. Hundreds, even thousands of rounds expended in both directions, and in only a few cases will there be any real certainty that you ever actually hit anyone at all.

If your unit manuevers through the previous enemy position (you don't always) and you see any enemy casualties, there's often no way to be sure that it was you that shot them. Oh, you may have shot at them and be sorta/kinda sure, but often the body may have multiple wounds from mutiple directions and types of ordnance, so there's just no way to be absolutely certain that it was you at all. Impersonal.

And sniping can be very, very, personal.

The target may be an HVT, and you read their file and know everything there is to know about them.
Or it may just be some guy. You lay out there and watch him for hours, maybe even days. You watch him pick his nose or take a shit. You watch his face when he's talking to others. You've seen him laugh. He even sorta reminds you of this guy you used to know. You get to know them. Their habits. Their "patterns of life".
And now you have to kill this stranger who's no threat to you and never done anything to you. Who doesn't even know that you're out there.

So she can be technically and tactically competent by the schoolhouse standards, but there are a least two psychological hurdles she still has to get over. And there's no way to know for sure until she does.

First, is the "no shoot sniper". This one is like "buck fever". It happens when the fully trained shooter has done everything correctly right up until the moment of pulling the trigger on their very first live target. They can see the target, everything is lined up, but they just can't bring themselves to do the deed. It's just too personal. Too much like murder. And they just can't do it. It happens.

The second hurdle is the "one shot sniper" and it's not what it sounds like. It's a shooter who has dropped a target before, and seemed okay with it, but the second time, they freeze. Because the first time it was all still academic. Events were proceeding with a kind of inertia all their own. But now they know what it looks like. The consequences to another human being, a stranger, when they pull that trigger.
And this time it's just too real for them and they can't do it.

So, until she gets at least 2 confirmed, it's all still just academic. She's just some chick with a fancy rifle and some expensive training.
