should I buy a steam deck? seems like a great way to get into Linux and I do need a new pc

I have a steam deck, touch it maybe once every few months. It's a great system, but a laptop is far more convenient for computer tasks.

It won't run anything but the OS for $100. I think $400 is a more realistic budget to get something functional. $150 on the graphics card will work for 1080p.

You can build a box for far less than what a prebuilt costs or a better system for the same cost. I understand if you don't have that motivation. What's your upgrade cycle like? Two years? If you plan on running it for longer you should build your own.
