Most American pursue the myth of home ownership which is no longer really possible.

It's based on the old idea from the pioneers that you could own a piece of land and own a home and provide yourself with your own energy needs and not have to pay anybody anything to live there. This is no longer the case and 90% or 99% of america. And I'm not even talking about paying off your mortgage. You going to be forced to connect to utilities which will always have an ever increase in costs that will exceed your ability to pay and return. You'll have probably HOA restrictions and property taxes. You will never get to that point. And people look at a home as an investment and it is not because you cannot not include the carrying cost of a home which is all those utility costs and insurance costs and not just the mortgage and it's interest in terms of your investment. Your best bet is to live in the smallest thing you can possibly live in and put your money into investments which will grow and give you true independence.

The point is that like US medical care the whole housing idea has become a sales pitch by powerful interests that is unlikely to lead to a better outcome for you in most cases.

If you took up work at an oil rig for a couple years you can easily get a nice comfortable house somewhere quiet. You probably don’t want a house or to work anyway, why am I responding?

Unless you are living far far away in a few select counties that house will come with encumbrances that you cannot avoid. You will be forced to tie into local utilities and things like your electrical bill in 10 years will be very unmanageable. You cannot avoid this. There are very few counties where you can live in the United States without hooking up something that you can get permitted to the utilities. Many places will not even let you harvest your own rainwater. The point is you can never truly get free and clear. Now if you're assuming that you're going to have some retirement income that will constantly exceed the rate of inflation of things like utilities and property taxes then that's a big assumption and you've got to create that wealth to create that monthly income that will exceed those things. But let me tell you having watched it happen with my parents who had good salaries all their lives that is exceedingly difficult to do and you're going to end up borrowing against your house as you get older and you will never truly own it.

Pure sinewave converters exist. You can store energy in batteries charged by your alternator.

Your assumptions are wrong.

I am just saying buying a house is now a trap unlikely to lead to wealth . It doesn't mean I or others don't desire houses.

And not everyone can get hired on an oil rig.

And not everyone is still young.

Abd yet you'll encounter boomer after boomer telling you that purchasing a house is easy: for $8000 you can get yourself a nice house and a couple of acres, just like they did 40 years ago. Hell, you can even get a nice car for another $1500, brand new, just like they did. Easy peasy!

Yes.

Not possible for 99% of america.

And even for those who do you must live the self sufficient rural lifestyle which requires work everyday.

All wealthy people have one thing in common, real estate holdings.

They’ve made a wise choice.

Not true anymore.

Actually the most wealth today is created by money managers.

The old landlord game ain't what it used to be.

It's far different than even 10 years ago

The second most wealth is created by stock participation in startups.

Bitcoin has been the easiest fastest weather creator for those who don't have those opportunities.

Money is fake wealth that can be devalued by ((money managers)) or ((politicians)). Read about the Crash of 1929.
Land may fluctuate, but it always has use value or market value.

Well said. I make this same observation for the zoomers who have absolutely no reason to leave home. Don’t forget a brand new car payment.

The quality of life is incredibly high for the average young adult. Plus you’ve got mommy’s chicken tendies.

"zoomers?" dude there are 40 year old "millennial / gen x" white men who have never left home. working dead end corporate jobs, sitting through white hate / diversity training classes, jerking off to cuck porn barely trying. Crying about their boomer parents cause they "had it easy"

Wife and I plan to sell our paid-off house and to buy a small used motorhome. We've done this before, working 3-day weeks at Denny's restaurants, parked behind the place, then off on adventures for the 4-day weekends. It was a great life. Never ever stayed in Campgrounds except at the beach. Saved so much money and had a blast. Gonna now do it full time in retirement. Off to see the whole country on the cheap.
