Well the good news is it might make SWAT teams a little more reluctant to storm into regular people's homes with machine guns pointing at them and might instead cause a change in tactics where they actually stand 20 ft outside the house with a bullhorn and say come out with your hands up like they used to instead of pointing guns at you in your home in your bed and then shooting you sometimes.

It's probably just bad reporting, but the story seems a little odd.

1-Reports of someone firing a flare gun from inside their house 30-40 times.
2-Cops go to investigate.
3-Cops obtain a search warrant.
4-"Several shots" at cops from inside house.
5-Stand off ensues with no contact with suspect.
6-Massive explosion as SWAT vehicle approaches the house.

So during the initial investigation, wouldn't the cops already have probable cause to enter the house? Why did they obtain a search warrant? Or were they executing a search warrant independent of the flares? The reporting on this has been kind of unclear, as it says they were both executing a warrant and obtaining a warrant.

There were "several shots" from inside the house, though it is kind of unclear again whether that was when they first showed up or after they had gotten a warrant. And it says it might have been shots from a gun or shots from a flare gun. How in the world would anyone be confused as to whether it was a flare gun or an actual gun being fired? They sound nothing alike.

The explosion itself is also a little odd. It's too "slow" and fiery to be something like ANFO or gunpowder, and seems to resemble a "Hollywood" explosion which would indicate gasoline. But that's A LOT of gasoline in that case, and the fire should have sustained itself a lot longer than just that initial fireball and then essentially nothing. And if it was a bunch of flares cooking off, then the color of the fire is wrong, and again, it would have continuously burned if you could even get it to blow up like that.

Regardless though, this seems really planned out by the suspect. They would have had to gather enough material to cause the explosion, then rig it to blow up. They also would have had to buy way more flares than anyone would reasonably stock. Then rather than blowing the house up once the cops showed up, he waited until they were all in a relatively safe position before setting off the explosion.

It's just strange.

ANFO
Ammonia Nitrate Fuel Oil. A different oxidizer in conjunction with gasoline, with poor proportions could produce a slower explosion.

Everything else is either strange or a flat out joke.
30-40 flare shots.

Sure. I suppose it just seems like more effort than the typical schizo having a meltdown is going to be able to come up with. Who knows though.

"Front towards enemy" is worth a little thought if you're not so good at English.
