St. Francis Xavier December 3rd | Saint of the DaySt. Francis Xavier was a Navarrese-Basque Roman Catholic missionary born in the Kingdom of Navarre on April 7, 1506. His father was a privy counselor and finance minister to King John III of Navarre. He was the youngest in his family and resided in a castle which still partially stands today and is in the possession of the Jesuit order.
As the young Francis grew, he was surrounded by war. Navarre was the target of a campaign by King Ferdinand of Aragon and Castile, and the kingdom was eventually conquered.
When the war stopped and Francis came of age, he was sent to study at the University of Paris. While there he roomed with his friend, Peter Favre. The pair met and were heavily influenced by Ignatius of Loyola, who encouraged Francis to become a priest.

Many will see in their mind’s eye a portrait or sculpture they have seen before, the classic white man with beard in cloud.
Others will see their favourite religious figure (too many to list here).
Some will not be able to formulate an abstract ideal into an image at all.
Imagining what God should/does look like is simply a reflection of one’s desire for Him to appear.
My belief is, we as humans are only scratching the surface of what the universe has to offer. Religious beliefs manipulated by political endeavour has left us in a state of enlightenment limbo just short of realization. Remember, it was only a couple of hundred years ago that we figured out such a basic principle as the air foil……., amen?
