That is a terrible song, and Wolfman Jack was an obnoxious AM radio hack. The only reason he became popular is because he was in "American Graffiti" (1973). Otherwise, he'd have lived in obscurity, which where he belonged. The Guess Who's 1974 song "Clap for the Wolfman" was absolute and utter crap also.
In 1974, I used to change the station when this song came on the radio. He hosted the musical show "The Midnight Hour", and I tolerated his presence just to get on to the actual talent on the show.
The Guess Who was a bunch of Canadian commies who advocated socialism and land redistribution. The best thing that came from that band was Randy Bachman, whose departure accelerated the band's decline in quality and eventual break-up.
It's a crap song from a crap band, and Wolfman Jack was untalented, whose only ability was saying meaningless things on AM radio. "Clap for the Wolfman, He's gonna rate your record high!" Oh, okay, so the public, all of whom have records they're waiting to have played on the radio, are just waiting for the Wolfman to rate their records high. Yeah, that sounds pretty stupid.
Hey, just for fun, I'm going to run down shitty songs from 1974.
Seasons in the Sun The Loco-Motion Hooked on a Feeling You're Having My Baby Mockingbird You and Me Against the World I Honestly Love You Life Is A Rock (But The Radio Rolled Me) Gonna Make You a Star Rock On
So, call me curmudgeon without musical taste. Don't care. These are just terrible songs, just as most of what the Guess Who was crap.
