This isn't even new but is accurate. Sleep accomplishes more than one goal because we have evolved to use it. But if you want to understand its base use you have to understand that all animals sleep all the way down the the most basic worms? Why?

Because tissue can't detox unless the cell enters a state of rest. The problem is the nervous system is fully engaged when awake. So if you are going to clear metabolic waste from these cells most of your nervous system is going to have to turn off and be replaced by a back up nervous system that can turn off during the day.

Be sure to drink plenty of water before bed because you need it to carry out the waste. And while muscle tissue isn't under such strict limitations it also takes advantage of the rest and is also clearing out metabolic waste. So you have a lot of shit to clear out at night.

Also alcohol dehydrates you and leaves less liquids for clearing out other toxins. If you want to retain a bunch of toxins drink at night. They will accumulate and you'll feel like shit when you are old.
