Empire Strikes Back was pretty good. Maybe The Dark Knight?

I mean... if we are talking about sequels that were better than the first movie.

Because the Bourne movies were pretty good. The first three, anyways. It's like one 6 hour movie. Same with Lord of the Rings.

Temple of Doom is pretty good, especially since it isn't a pro-Jew Nazi hate fest like the others.

Yeah Empire Strikes Back and The Dark Knight coulda both gone on that same list. Temple of Doom isn't as beloved compared to the others as those choices, even if a lot of us might find it easier to watch due to the lack of muh Nazis.

I selected these two because they were standalone movies.

The previous two were each open closed movies.

Yet the sequel to both managed unique story lines of their own while true to their predecessor.

Your examples are series, one movie setups the next.

Partially because terminator 2 was such a huge step up. Aliens was fantastic but so was the 1st one.
