I’m confused, as tapes weren’t around until the 1970's. Do you mean tapes in the seventies of stuff from the fifties? Maybe it was reel to reel?

Stuff got recorded on tapes from its original format and redistributed in those days I think. Either that or the stories about the rangers I listened to were newer than these. Not sure now

Probably recorded on same sort of tapes as movies. Had that with audio capabilities since th 1930's.

Shows like Radio Mystery Theatre was responsible for more than a few sleepless nights.
There was also a local radio station that would also run re-runs of some of the older shows.
