I went to Japan in the mid 90’s a few times; about 1/4 of everybody had a mask on. It wasn’t flu season. The story was that it’s honorable to contain your germs.

So if a Japanese slut let an American tourist drop an A-bomb on her crotch all night and was feeling a loss of honor with the rising sun, she could wear a mask in public for a few weeks to regain whatever honor went out the door while she was cow-girling.

The country is indeed very nice, but the people are broken in many ways. Sure, they might be the best of the bug-people, but they're still bug-people. While their ethnocentrism and hard-work ethic is to be greatly admired, their lack of family values and obsession with work is something no culture should ever emulate. Maybe it's better in less densely populated cities, but the middle-class residents of Tokyo are almost completely demoralized.
