When I still lived in Deutschland dey would drive around in a van equipped with signal detectors, hunting for TVs (pre cable). I lived in a 5th floor walk-up, and never paid the license. When my building switched to cable, all the apartments got wired for it, but I never agreed to it and never paid a bill, although I certainly made use of it. MTV was new, and we watched it 24-7. All music videos back then, no stupid reality shows. Good times!

When I was 16 I took over the families cable bill which at the time was 8 bucks a month for basic cable but they never changed it from standard to basic and I wasnt about to inform them.

When I moved out 4 years later I put the bill back in my dad's name and they tried to charge him for what I never paid for. He told them to go fuck themselves and canceled cable and resigned up under a new plan.

In nz bout 20-30 years ago (it cost nzd$110 per year) they use to pick a neighborhood at random and then have guys knocking on everyones door enquiring your details and if you have paid. Back then one could simply say 'Nah mate - dont watch it - dont have a tv' and close the door as long as they couldnt see a tv through an easily accessible window they had to kick rocks. Knew a Christian couple that legit didnt watch tv that also never paid but had a tv set for (Christian) videos.
Govt stopped thew payment/ enforcement scam because so many were not 'voluntarily' paying the 'broadcasting fee' and moved it to a govt funded model (tax payer funded)

This is fake. I've NEVER had a BBC licence, I've had a TV forever, I just use it as a monitor or to game when I was younger.

Not a single visit or letter or anything. This is about 20 years straight. I don't know anyone who pays for it under 40. Only old people pay. Likely cause confused and rich enough to not care.

They aren't even expensive. Used to be about £100 for the year or something. They fund the BBC to make ad-free programming. just the BBC is fully jewed and not impartial as claimed. So fuck em.

Yeah you need a license if your watching live TV.

You can just tell them to fuck off tho, they can't gain access to your house or do literally anything. Only way you'd get caught out is if they look through the window as they knock on and see you watching live TV.

I've never paid and neither have my family or friends. If they knock on, you just either blank them or tell them to do one.

It's not tacked directly onto the bill for 2 reasons.

1. Marketing - makes price look lower.

2. The TV licence is per household not per connection. If you have a holiday home or want to watch TV somewhere else, you don't need a separate license.

As another poster mentioned - the licence fee - ad free BBC is valid in concept, and until recently was very good.

Currently it's infected - but that's temporary
