Nah, blanks won't reliably cycle even simple blowback actions, much less gas-operated ones. Most guns that fire blanks have been designed or modified for the purpose, or are are revolvers. Hell, the only time I've even seen a box of blanks for sale was as a curiosity item at a gun show.

That's true if you shoot vertical. A bullet going straight up reaches zero velocity, then its falling speed will just be what gravity can do minus wind resistance. Anything close to vertical is fine, but the shallower the angle the more speed is retained.

These niggers are shooting below a 45 degree angle, so whatever is getting hit by the bullets is fucked. The bullets will be a fraction of their normal velocity when they land, but that's still plenty enough to kill for rifles.

Well all arcs are ballistic. The question is how much energy is left when it comes down. The more towards straight up you fire, the less that will be. There's not really a clean line between a shot adjusted for distance and a shot fired into the air.
