TIL that to keep a piece of broccoli fresh - put it in a jar of water (like a plant) in the fridge and away from other vegetables.

For some reason my missus doesn't store broccoli in the fridge and it's always going off and it smells and...she then feeds it to me!

good advice. I just put my broccoli in the fridge (where it already was, but not with its feet in the water) like demonstrated. Curious of it will work. PS Does your missus sometimes have more of those murderous tendencies?

Well. Put it this way. She packed my food box for me as I needed to go to the city (we mostly live at the Coast) and last night I found this thumping great piece of yellowing broccoli - enough for two people. And I thought: "this is hopeless. Our broccoli always goes off" and so I did some Internet research and was pleasantly surprised. When I get back home I can share this information with my wife. Will it change anything? Probably not because...I thought of it...or "that dirty broccoli isn't going in the fridge" or "There's no room in the fridge. We need a bigger fridge!"

I hope you're putting it in your worm bin when it goes bad.

Or buy less and eat it.
Then go buy more.

Or if growing your own - vac-seal it and freeze it..

We only buy a small amount (one head). It seems to go off quicker than any other vegetable if left in the open.

Keep it from going bad? No. Keep it plump and turgid? Sure. Putting it in fridge is what keeps it from going bad.
