Which was written first? How far apart in time were they written? How far apart in time were the author's? Was the later author even aware of the writings of the previous author at the time of his own writing?
Facts can be slippery things sometimes, and "eyewitness testimony" the most unreliable evidence of all. The simple fact is, most people's memories are notoriously bad.
Homer wrote the "Iliad" 700 years after the events he portrayed in it. Good story. Bad factual history.
