Need to start carrying. Always.

9mm or .38 ACP?

Single action or double?

Better safe than sorry. There could be niggers out there.

The planet has become infested.

Non-answer that really is the answer: The best gun is the one you are confident using.

Some manufacturers make autos that are double-action on first pull and single afterwards, which is pretty cool in my opinion.

I've carried a couple full-size autos and, while they are more accurate (due to the longer barrel length than compacts/subs) and generally have higher capacity, there were times when it felt like I had a goddamn boat anchor in my pants.

As to caliber, opinions vary. I believe it's not completely outrageous to suggest that the caliber is a lot less important than the specific ammunition you select and, again, that's more of a non-answer.

I personally like lighter bullets in a .45 ACP, e.g. Lehigh (sp?) extreme penetrators. They look like screwdriver bits and create massive cavitation. I keep one magazine stacked with those on top and 230 grain +P hollow point loads underneath in case I need to put more lead into whatever needs killing after closing distance.

For home use, you might consider pre-fragmented and/or epoxy bonded powder rounds as they will do massive damage to soft tissue at close range without over-penetrating (e.g. you miss, bullet goes through wall and drills your kid/neighbor/etc.).

Point of all this is to say that there really isn't a single "one-size-fits-all" approach, though there are many "one-size-fits-most".

The most straightforward answer I can offer you to your direct question is to go .380 if you need it to be really tiny, otherwise 9mm is probably a better choice.

*Edit: Changed "caliber has a lot less to do with" to "caliber is a lot less important than"

I had a goddamn boat anchor in my pants.
Can totally relate.

Serious: Thanks for the explanation!

The only time I carry my fullsize or even the midsize pistols is open carry, it's so uncomfortable after carrying a subcompact around everywhere

Any one will do, just make sure you keep one in the chamber, and when you carry, carry every day.

[ - ] Fascinus 2 points 5 monthsNov 18, 2023 22:18:01 ago (+2/-0)

So much this.

If you're afraid to carry one in the chamber you are probably carrying the wrong gun.

[ - ] Inward 1 point 5 monthsNov 18, 2023 21:16:35 ago (+1/-0)*

Both replies currently below are correct. I'm going to be more direct. Glock 26. It's a 9mm. It's simple; safeties are in the trigger. It will not fire without your finger (or something) on the trigger. They are reliable and last forever. Do you know the difference in a new Glock and a used one? About $50. (Well known joke.) Take a class. Get confortable shooting and drawing. Ammunition is expensive these days but get a lot. If anything big ever goes down, you will only have what you've got on hand. Stores sell out fast, ask anyone that bought at the beginning of Wuflu. Seriously, have no less than 1000 rounds. It doesn't go bad and people will often buy used ammunition for the price it currently sells at from estate or private sales. It could wind up being currency if SHTF.

[ - ] Fascinus 1 point 5 monthsNov 18, 2023 22:12:42 ago (+1/-0)

Showing my age here and the Glock I use is a Gen 2 (Not my EDC).

Do they still have triggers that are a mile long?

If so, a simple trigger job will be the best investment you make in improving what is an already great sidearm.

I've had that pistol for close to 25 years now and the only time it ever jammed was when some fag limp-wristed it.

I once read of a gun club collectively putting a million rounds through a Glock 19 (9mm) without cleaning it and the thing still ran like a champ. Talk about reliable.

[ - ] Inward 0 points 5 monthsNov 18, 2023 22:26:22 ago (+1/-1)

Yeah, a replacement trigger can make a big difference. I don't think they've changed it much.

I've seen one of the John Wick films and I'm not even sure the reference here. I've had a Glock for a long time. It has never failed nor any of its mags. It's easy to disassemble and clean. There are a lot of models and guns; Glock is a good recommendation, especially for a guy who wants to get something without being overwhelmed. And if he doesn't like it, he can sell it without losing much. In fact, if he buys a used one, he could sell it for what he buys it for.

Glock

What a brand fag. Choke on a dick.

[ - ] NoRefunds -2 points 5 monthsNov 18, 2023 22:14:09 ago (+1/-3)

Glock is a piece of shit gun that was basically made to compete with keltec and retards bought the shit out of it, including military, because it was so cheap, and instead of getting the distain it deserves, it has a cult following for who knows why. You buy it and you have to replace everything on it to make it worth a shit, so fucking stupid might as well buy a factory gun that isn't a piece of shit.

[ - ] Inward 2 points 5 monthsNov 18, 2023 22:23:40 ago (+2/-0)

You're a tool.

[ - ] NoRefunds -2 points 5 monthsNov 18, 2023 23:06:27 ago (+0/-2)

No, the gun is a tool, and a Glock is a shitty tool. And you're mad because I'm right, instead of changing your opinion, you are mad. I guess keep that Glock for yourself

[ - ] Inward 1 point 5 monthsNov 19, 2023 08:43:20 ago (+1/-0)

You're a poser and you know I know it. Just go away. I have no interest in your thoughts.

[ - ] MuricaPersonified 1 point 5 monthsNov 19, 2023 09:08:44 ago (+1/-0)

Do you have any idea what you're talking about? Glock was producing pistols before Kel-Tec. George Kelgren was still fucking around with Tec9 variants at the time. I'm not going into Glock's history because anyone here who is even vaguely into firearms already knows it, but it won them the Austrian contract and their popularity snowballed from there. They are very reliable pistols and excellent duty guns.

Are they perfect? No, but you don't even seem to know why you hate 'em. The main contention these days are that their product line has A) Stagnated and B) Generally still priced higher than more modern competition. No one is actually saying they're shit.

Are Glocks my favorite, oh hell no, but do I carry them more than other pistols? Yes, because they're no-frills functional and I don't mind beating them up.

[ - ] NoRefunds 0 points 5 monthsNov 19, 2023 09:19:12 ago (+1/-1)

Their triggers suck ass, their sights suck ass, their magwell sucks ass, they are light as shit so your recoil sucks ass, everything about them suck ass dude. My cousin bought one and we put 300 rounds thru it and I said this gun sucks and he ended up selling it a week later. I have 3 xdms, 2 m&ps, 2 CZ, and a Ruger they are all far better.

[ - ] MuricaPersonified 0 points 5 monthsNov 19, 2023 15:36:31 ago (+0/-0)

Their triggers are adequate duty triggers. I don't expect my Glocks to feel like my Shadow 2 or SP01 Competition. They are striker-fire triggers which does the final charging of the striker; it's going to have some take up and mush. Their breaks are pretty clean, if sometimes heavier than the factory-specified 5.5LBs. They can be broken in, smoothed out, or simply replaced. As for trigger resets, they're actually quite good with very little takeup back to the clearly-defined wall.

The sights are a cheap shot but I'll give you that. However, I've only ever seen one goon break the factory plastics before. Recoil is fine. Half the point of the pistol is that it's supposed to be light; same as all striker-fired pistols including your XDM and M&P lines.

I am not going to compare and contrast them to any of my pistols, because they serve a use case that is different from most of the others.

.45 striker fired. Glock 30 is a great choice. 10+1. I carry a kahr CW .45. 6+1 Hornady CRITICAL dUTY SELF DEFENSE AMMO. 490 LBS OF DELIVERED FORCE. EXTRA MAG IN POCKET. 2 MORE IN TRUCK.

Something there says you've been around a while. Outside of vintage firearms, you're not going to find much chambered in .38 ACP.

Most modern carry guns are striker fired, so single action. There are still plenty of good DA/SA options too. 9mm is fine with any modern HP loadings, probably ideal because of ammo availability; it's cheaper to practice with.

And white men will do nothing about it because we've been conquered.

[ - ] ScheduledSuicide 3 points 5 monthsNov 18, 2023 21:16:09 ago (+3/-0)

All of our clubs and social events occur online. Even saying this to you - TYPING ThIs - perpetuates the conquering. We need beer halls. Whites need socializing. And not online. What if all this is just another brick in the 'white-genocide'?

police ... describe as an "isolated assault"

In other news, a jogger charged with arson for setting fire to a schoolhouse full of children was escorted to the safety of jail in what police describe as a "flame error".
