The Neighborhood Possum

The previous home owner left food out for the neighborhood cat.

I did the same up until I came home one night to a family of raccoons on my porch. Anyway, some time later, I decided to clean out my fridge and left some of the foods out. Figured the coons can have it.

The next day, The moment I leave my house, there’s a possum at my feet looking right at me scared shitless before it slowly scurries off. They aren't very fast. That possum was cute as all hell so I’ve been leaving it bread. I see the possum regularly.

This is a true story btw.

I use to feel that they had little value until I learned that they can eat thousands of ticks in a year, and they don't transmit Lyme disease. Now I love the little critters.

Granny Clampett would cook the fucker for dinner. I like opossums, they eat ticks and are actually immune to rabies. They're way softer than they look, btw. You can actually snatch one up and pet it, and they're pretty fuckin friendly. If this sounds like the voice of experience, you need not get your hearing checked. They're cool animals to have around, just shouldn't feed them though. They'll never leave you alone.

I've caught two of them in my yard,rooting around for grubs,one had obvious signs of rabbis infection,it was euthanized by the city.The other was transported to a more rural area.

(Had a momentary mental image of a possum being circumsized by a horde of little miniature rabbis, running through his fur and oy veying. "Holy shit man, that possum has got one of the worst rabbi infections I've ever seen!")

Possums all over my back yard, often come face to face with one running along the fence top. They love fruit too.

You can catch possums pretty easily and pick them up by their tails and they don't carry rabies.

It's very greasy, but the lowly possum kept many people alive during the great depression years.

Nice. Have some stray or local cats at one of the truck yards I'm always tempted to leave them food, heard there is a possum here too. Seen a family of coons too(not the nigger kind lol)
