At Gym, About Done

submitted by recon_johnny to GoatFitnessClub 5 monthsNov 11, 2023 20:09:09 ago (+7/-0)     (GoatFitnessClub)

Routine is sometimes morning, but have made a regular of evening. Started with 3 day split: Chest, Back, Traps. Then Shoulders, Arms. Last day is Legs and Abs.

Every day has 30-60 mins bike.

But…my joints hurt like hell, so I’m at a 4 day. Still do cardio, but maybe 30-45.

Is shitty getting old.

Try supplementing MSM (Methylsulfonylme)

It lubricates the joints

I put it into my protein or preworkout powder. It has no flavor.

This is good advice.

Yes will need to try…

As dude says below…thanks. Heard about this but never used it.

Not quite "old as fuck" and getting there goat here.

Been hitting the weights hard and feel like a fucking beast.

Age is just a number until you see it looking back at you in a mirror.

Surely as the sun rises and sets, do the work and the results will follow.

Wish that were true. I used to be strong and big as fuck…mid to late 40s was 230lbs and benched 3 plates. Did a bit over 3 for squat and 4 for deadlift. But…had a serious cat accident in my late 20s and surgeries for everything it seemed…5 shoulder, 3 elbow, meniscus…and it’s all caught up. 300 has passed me by, although I still work as much as I can.

Am 60 next month, and my goal now is to not get hurt—meaning no more balls to the wall. Recovery takes forever when you’re older.

But am working—will try to keep that up, see physical changes depending on what I’m working on, so there’s that.

Congrats on your success. Hope it continues.

Venturing a guess and you may be a bit farther down the path than I am, partner.

Let me tell you that I appreciate you relating the view from there.

Tell me that it ain't so that it's been a hell of a ride, wishing you knew what you know now when you were younger and growing accustomed to the lay of the land as we reach further toward the sunset.

To give you an idea of where I'm at along the trail, I'm now lifting with my adult children. Some of whom exceed me in a few lifts and lag behind in others.

A good father wants his progeny to exceed him in every way, yet there is still a bit of selfish pride knowing the old man's still got it :)

*Edit: "wishing you knew what you know now when you were older" to "younger", which is what I meant. Old mind at work?

Thanks, will need to look into this. Haven't heard of it before.

I haven't used this product before and it looks legit to me. I've been very pleased with other products from this company.

Over 60 and I turned my upper body routine into higher reps (8-12) and shorter rest (1 minute). Stop about 2 reps before failure and stick with push/pull stuff and eliminated wasted exercises like curls. I need to do more bike.

You’re over training. That is too much cardio for the typical goy

Thought I listed everything, but see I didn't.

Going to gym 4 times a week--4 day split. Cardio each day. Do not go in on off days. 30-45 mins after lifting. Lifting isn't heart and lung training, and I need that. 2-3 hours week isn't too much, by any means, especially for my age.

Do your balls a favor and get off the bike

[ - ] recon_johnny [op] 0 points 5 monthsNov 13, 2023 16:34:45 ago (+0/-0)

Recumbent bike. Fuck those saddle fucks. I thought I had said that above, but I did not.

You should try eating oak bark. It has a lot of nutrients and the best part is it’s free

[ - ] recon_johnny [op] 0 points 5 monthsNov 13, 2023 16:39:07 ago (+0/-0)

Yes, but I heard side effects include growing large incisors and a flat tail, and damming up rivers.

my joints hurt like hell

Boswellia (Frankincense) is great for joint pain.

If you are serious about lifting and looking for a potent ally, I also recommend Velvet Antler. Yes, it is exactly what you think it is; they tranq red stags and saw their antlers off while they are in velvet.

It's been a traditional eastern remedy for ages and there are tons of studies available. I've read four books on it myself and have been recommending it for years.

It's not cheap. Even the low-end product goes for $40-50 per bottle and the good stuff is up around $150.

antlerfarms.com is the best I've found anywhere at any price. It's not cheap and, bottom line, it works.

Does it really work, though? I've seen multiple things say they work but does not...That cost isn't took out of line for something effective, with low side effects.

I will take a look, however...do you have any experience with either? Thnx ahead of time.

[ - ] Fascinus 1 point 5 monthsNov 13, 2023 19:38:32 ago (+1/-0)*

do you have any experience with either?

Both. Personally and anecdotally.

Antler should be cycled for greatest effect. My usual schedule is 5 days on, 2 days off.

Both are great at relieving pain and accelerating recovery.

I should also mention Daily Turmeric from MegaFood. It's not just Turmeric. It's a formulation that includes Turmeric, Dark Cherries and a bunch of other stuff.

Turmeric combined with dark cherries is effective at pain relief and there's a bunch of other phytonutrients like citrus bioflavinoids to help with recovery. It's good stuff.

That cost isn't took out of line for something effective, with low side effects.

Side effects include awesome :)

Presuming there is a Mrs. Recon, she may be pleasantly surprised by some of them.

*Edited to add more information on the Turmeric formulation.
