CSAM is going to be the death of the internet. Site owners should get huge exceptions to handle it reasonably. For right now there are some very shakey safe harbor protections that mostly don't apply. They might save you, but you basically have to assume they won't. Not only should there be reduced chance of being charged for reasonably handling the data, but there should be very tight maximal sentences. Now there is the opposite. 5 year mandatory minimum per image. If you are omegle you are dealing with big data so even if it is 0.0001% of your data, almost making it impossible to find among a sea of files, you still get automatic life even if you did a relatively good job (just not good enough for the government, aka you are a political target), just off of sheer scale.

If you handle other people's files you are basically signing up to be thrown in a trash bin any time the government wants.

And with rising costs and shrinking prospects of eventual profitability for tech firms basically fewer and fewer companies will be doing things for free, like hosting files. The future might be hosting your own files, and then social media hot links.

But then the virus scare mongers like Bill Gates will have a hay day with that.
