Most of what you need to know is contained in the book: "The Valor Of Ignorance" by Homer Lea (1909) where he predicted the rise of Japan and included detailed battle strategies by which they could take the Philippines, Hawaii and the west coast of the United States. His next book: "The Day Of The Saxon" explained why Germany would and must overthrow Britain, and thereby ending the British Empire. Marvelous books.
Had Japan struck before WW1, Japan would have easily taken the western US all the way to the Rockies. The US would not get involved in WW1, fighting Japan in doomed efforts to regain the west, and Germany would have won all of Europe and Britain.
All this from Homer Lea, a blind crippled midget hunchback who helped Sun Yat-sen overthrow the Manchu Dynasty in China. Homer died at age 35 of a stroke.
