Can anybody recommend an older 4 door truck that can easily pull a 27 foot RV and has as little electronic bullshit as possible?

I'm willing to put a new engine and tranny in it if need be. I need something relatively reliable though.

2001 Ford Excursion 4x4 diesel with 7.3L. Just bought one. Might be the best truck ever built.

It’s literally one of the best and most easily upgradable motors out there. It will run forever. It’s a turbo diesel, not a gasser.

Well this one has a bit more than that.

Don't you have to go back to 1990 to get a vehicle without electronics?

[ - ] JudyStroyer 4 points 1.5 yearsNov 7, 2023 05:13:24 ago (+4/-0)

No, you’d need to go back further for no electronics. You are thinking of obd 2 which began in like 96. Obd1 vehicles are way less computer chip based. They had sensors and an ecu to control the fuel injection system and monitor parameters. It’s way better than obd 2 especially if you live in a state where they will hook up their computer to an obd port in your car. Obd1 doesn’t have this and is an automatic pass. Obd 1 is still very much electronic. Just way more basic.

Obd?

My shtf plan lies in my 1960 Massey Ferguson.

Hope that emp won't destroy the starter motor us all

Good used vehicles are very overpriced these days, especially used trucks. The newer models are crap, and everyone knows it because they track everything you do. Older vehicles don't have that installed. I would recommend going with an older model just for this, but be prepared to pay more than you expected.

1990 Toyota land cruiser 850k km for $17k nzd.

That's US $10k. Outrageous.

Do yo want reliability or do you want to wrench on old junk? Get something newer and just do your thing instead of all the work. Unless of course you are poor and inclined to do all this work. If so, go with an older F350. Enjoy the mileage.

[ - ] Lost_In_The_Thinking 2 points 1.5 yearsNov 6, 2023 23:39:17 ago (+2/-0)

What do you consider the cut-off point for "newer"?

[ - ] TheOriginal1Icemonkey 2 points 1.5 yearsNov 7, 2023 00:39:25 ago (+2/-0)

Newer being tuned port injection and all that shit the haters here like to hate on. Truth is, that stuff works, without you having to work on it. These fuckers hate me for my new $75k F-150.

Red aurora six times this year in Texas.

Magnetic field is collapsing and electronics will die in our lifetime.

I don't mind doing the work when I get it, but I don't like surprises. I want old enough to not have cellular/GPS, or not so integrated that I can't just pull the fuse, and not so old that stuff falls off while I'm driving. :)

Idk when the gps computers came into play. I just bought a 2023 F-150. My two other trucks are ‘02 and ‘03 F-150s. I don’t really care either way. I was just tired of driving worn out shit with 250-300k miles on it.

Old dodge ram with a Cummins.

Anything pre-2000 with a Chevrolet 5.7 liter V8. Pre-1990, preferably. Suburbans are great!

A Texan driving a Toyota? Do you have pink hair too?

[ - ] texasblood 1 point 1.5 yearsNov 7, 2023 08:49:04 ago (+2/-1)

87% made in America and built in Texas.
Those other three combined can't claim that.
Chevy,Ford,Dodge are IMPORTS!
So yeah since 07 it's Toyota for the long run.

[ - ] bobdole9 1 point 1.5 yearsNov 7, 2023 08:56:13 ago (+1/-0)

I take it Toyota doesn't have UAW useless niggers to deal with, unlike the Big 3.

Been to the plant twice and honestly don't recall seeing any.
