Back when televisions had picture tubes, they would hold a charge of around 25KV indefinitely.

I've seen a spark jump 5 inches out of the back of one of those tubes after someone accidentally broke the connector and caused a vacuum leak. It launched a man up in the air and threw him back 10 feet. I warned him not to get close and he ignored my warning and pointed his finger at the problem then POP instant superman. Afterwards, he was all "I didn't even touch it!" and I said "now you know about high voltage."

10kv to jump and inch is a safe thought to keep in your head.

I hope he learned his lesson well

Only for about 15 minutes, by then the capacitors should be discharged.

Capacitors. 15 minutes my ass. Fuk around and find out.

I'm an electrical engineer, most capacitors in home equipment will discharge naturally over the course of ten to fifteen minutes.

You're thinking of charged capacitors not wired into anything. Under that condition the capacitor will retain a charge for far longer. A capacitor soldered to a PCB in a microwave will discharge quickly thanks to the resistive load in which it is hardwired.

I fuck around all the time, and I have found out. That's why I know better than you.

A CRT can remain partially charged for over a week. While usually the charge will mostly dissipate within 30 minutes it can still be dangerous for days.

Yeah, and a AA battery can kill you if it's current crosses your heart.

I'm not telling people to lick the fucking capacitor, I'm saying fifteen minutes while wired is good enough for safe work conditions.

A smart person will always check for voltage regardless, but you guys act like it's a bomb thats going to blow up an entire city block if you look at them wrong.

That's why I think these comments are from people who don't have any real knowledge on the subject, ignorance breeds fear.

I recently replaced the HV capacitor in my microwave. They can hold 4000 volts.

A gay penis contains enough semen to give you AIDS.
