Click the "U" in the upper left of the map to filter down to military craft and then go look at places that have clusters of planes/helicopters

It's almost the end of the fiscal year and most Military pilots (particularly reserve/guard pilots) need to meet their minimum number of hours for flight time or they risk getting grounded.

What's this one doing? Took off from Jacksonville Naval Air Station with four USA Blackhawks flying around there. Found another: MTCH36 from Australia.

I saw a fighter jet fly over the house yesterday. I don't know about search patterns, but judging by the size and speed that fucker was low and in a hurry. Couldn't tell you what it was, didn't sound like an f-18 though. Somewhere around 3pm est moving ENE over alachua county in the direction of Jacksonville.

I love the sound of those things, but I've never heard one come up and be gone so fast.

Sometimes we have flyovers on gameday, but they're just cruising at a couple hundred knots for that and there's always more than one. This one was solo and fuckin booking it.

Likely a reserve pilot trying to get their minimum flight hours in.

They are still looking for D.B. Cooper

He's probably living it up in some quiet town. If I were DB Cooper, and I survived, I'd buy a moderately small property in Apalachicola and a shrimp boat. I'd be on the water everyday and get paid for it. Think about it, nobody would look for you there. You could stretch that out, live simple and comfortable, and be out on the water everyday.

Apalachicola is on the gulf of Mexico. Beautiful spot, you should check it out.

I've been there.

It's not a normal sight around here, also why would a weekend warrior be logging hours on a Wednesday, without anyone supervising his training? Normally I'd agree, I do see ospreys, c-130s, and black hawks not infrequently, but they're always headed north west towards either Pensacola or the army base nearby. Almost never in the direction I saw this hot shot headed.

Edit: also if he was logging hours, why would he be moving so damn fast? Definitely not supersonic, but I'm telling ya that cat was moving.

Not sure I see anything out of the norm.

I live near a BUSY Air-Force base and it's actually quiet atm.

There are no refuelling tankers doing training runs atm, which is a very normal thing to see daily.

What does a normal day look like?
