One question I have been researching lately - but haven't found a definitive answer yet - is whether the hpv vaccine is making the virus worse for throat cancers.

The hpv vaccine targets the 3 most cancer causing versions of the virus to prevent cervical cancer. What is the mechanism for this cancer prevention? Is it actually to have the immune system target the virus and kill it? (unlikely, since most hpvs are never "killed" but mostly made inert) or is it to just make the cancer not take hold?

If the vaccine is design to just protect again cancer taking hold, this means that these 3 most dangerous versions are still active and easier to spread. Whereas without the vaccine, the body can try to suppress the virus to make it less likely to be spreadable.

It would be very nice to find research that describes these issues.
