Hi @AryanPrime. Harvested a few tubs of potatoes. Very disappointing. Small.

Might have to ditch spud growing in favour of beans where I seem to have more success. I refuse to use souped-up soil. The problem seems to be too much nitrogen due to grass mulch. Lots of lovely leaf growth but few tubers! And f..k you too!

Those are some nice looking potatoes you raised there. Are you and your "wife" going to enroll them in public school in the fall?

Thanks bro. You've lost me. I know "potato" seems to have a double-meaning on this site but no-one explains it to me.

Not suppose to wash them until you are ready to eat them I thought. Regardless, hope your cabbages do better Paul. Ours are looking great, 2 of them got ravaged by slugs, those were picked, trimmed and eaten already. I made cabbage soup with a few of our garden tomato and sunchokes for one.

True and the missus chided me accordingly. The cabbage moth-slug destroyed my only broccoli plant. Yesterday I was feeling very low due to my disappointing potato crop (so far.Other bed might be better). But today I feel resilient and I'm going to go back to growing tomatoes.

I had a thought, AP, and it is that I grew the wrong variety (Dutch Cream) for my garden's conditions because in the past pink/purple potatoes grew quite large so I won't give up just yet. I grew Dutch Cream 'cos the missus liked their look but she had some purple potatoes recently out of desperation and found she liked them (they didn't squirt ink at her).

That's actually a good haul for one plant.

Did you properly prepare the seed potatoes?

Did you plant them far enough apart?

Dutch creams should weigh on average, ~200 grams. They are supposed to be small. They are roughly ten times smaller than Ranger (Idaho) potatoes, is that what you're comparing them against?

Thanks bro. Missus said they tasted good. I'm yet to get any.

They are seed potatoes and so far they've not proved to be cost-effective. $150 would buy a lot of supermarket spuds as the missus reminds me.

That's interesting about Dutch Cream being smaller than other spud varieties. Makes me feel better. I was comparing them to supermarket spuds. Dutch Cream is a lovely looking potato but I want bigger ones because it's a waste of a tub and I bought about 20 of them @10 ea (as the missus reminds me).

PS it wasn't a haul from one plant but three!

Potatoes need loose soil to grow in.

They need space between plants.

The seed potatoes should only have two eyes on them, preferably on opposite ends of the potato.

What type of tater are you comparing to, the same dutch creams? The supermarket taters were grown using every trick possible; the things I mentioned as well as fertilizers. Potatoes need high nitrogen content during the vegetation stage, then swap to a fertilizer high in potassium during the fruiting stage.

Grow vegetables and you'll be a happier man.
