Just checked ticket prices - nosebleed seats start at $120 before fees. Obstructed view averaging around $200. Floor tickets are even worse - average price was $900! Saw one floor ticket for a whopping $1671! What in the FUCK! Who the fuck has that kind of money in this shitty ass economy? I've seen Tool 3 times & the most I paid was $85 for a 3rd row seat in 2007. It was a really good show too. The most I've ever paid for a concert ticket was $140 for OzzFest back in 2014 & still felt ripped off because 2 bands I wanted to see didn't play.
How the hell do bands & musicians justify these prices? I heard people were taking out loans and second mortgages for Taylor Swift tickets.
EDIT: After watching a few vids of their recent shows, I'm not going. It's definitely not worth those prices. I've seen DJs with with better visuals for fractions of the price for Tool tix.
I am a guitarist and even i can see the best part of tool is the drums, no other drummer stands out like Carey, most drum tracks i don't give a second thought.
tools guitar tracks are really fucking boring though, Carey should just go do his own thing, he's too good for tool.
Also a guitarist, and my two cents is worth $.01, but I think the mix of instruments, in terms of the complexity of the parts and what they're doing in the mix, is going to look different for each band. It might not work to do what Tool is doing with the drums while also having super complex guitar or keyboard parts: hey, some people are into the Dream Theater prog rock thing (how many different instruments doing college-lvl math can we squeeze into one song), but I'm not into it.
I've always looked at Tool's guitars as being textural rather than driving the music. To that end, I think they're really successful. Atmosphere on top of complex rhythms is their wheelhouse.
Danny being the beast he is doesn’t make tool a good band. I play drums too( but I am a guitar player) and know he is exceptional but the rest of the band and their music is, to me, just meh. I’ve tried to revisit them as a more mature adult in my 40’s but yeah, nah.
Danny is the best part of a tool show. Ticks and Leeches intro is one of my fav drum bits...but they never played it the times I went. Now Maynard is turning into a fag. Or showing his true colors...
Tool sucks. One trick pony. Just my opinion. However, aside from that, they haven’t been around long enough to charge Elton John prices. Only boomers who have ripped off the worth for their comfort status can afford tix like that.
Seeing Tool live is a whole different level. I'm not of fan of their newer album & 10,000 Day was boring, but the only way to fully experience them is live. Tons of lights & visuals & the overall atmosphere is really well done. It's on the same level as Pink Floyd. Maynard sometimes jokes with the crowd, the 2nd time I saw them he was throwing rolls of toilet paper into the crowd because he said it was a shitty audience.
It really is. I saw them years and years ago, it was a great experience and definitely worth it. The band Isis opened for them and that took me on a whole world of musical discovery that I am eternally grateful for.
It's just that ticket master has a monopoly on most of the big venues and they have full control over pricing. And they're greedy bastards.
One of the best shows I've seen was ICP at a small 350 person theater with Mushroomhead & a few other rappers. I'm pretty sure the venue packed in more than 350 because we could barely move. I was drenched in faygo soda & there was a pool of soda ankle deep by the time the show ended. I took some videos & got a faygo armageddon shower from them while I was recording & thankfully I put my phone in my pocket in time. People really do put their phones in ziplock bags at ICP shows.
This should be another reason to not pay those prices. I randomly check the Tool subreddit and the current setlist is 12 songs. 9 of them are from 10,000 days and FI.
That doesn't include the bullshit Ticketmaster fees. I am also skipping this tour. Nose bleeds are a little more expensive than that in my city and they don't play here until next year.

2) Blame the Jews for gouging since they control every aspect of entertainment
3) Maynard is a Tool.
Fuck'em and his Cash Grab Tour. He's supposedly going to retire from music after this last payday

Sell out an arena at $100 per ticket.
Or fill an arena 3/4 capacity at $200 per ticket.
3/4 capacity at $200 is more profitable than sold out at $100.
Maybe that's the strategy now.
