No clue. I worked with this geologist that bought a wife from Indonesia. I'm almost positive it was Indonesia. He was about what you imagine a guy would be like that would buy a wife from Indonesia: homely, book-smart, nice guy who was a bit of a dork. If I am remembering rightly I think he did two trips over there to meet her and her family and it ended up costing him like 15 grand between the "gift" to the family and all palms he had to grease on the Indonesian side of things. From what he told me the bride price/dowry is customary there. No clue if that's true for locals marrying each other or not but I expect it probably is.
She was really nice and quite attractive so good for him. This was roughly ten years ago so no idea if she divorce-raped him or not since I wasn't friends with him. We just worked at the same place.
