homeownership these days means you own the liabilities, the insurance and the bank work with the government to steal any equity or collateral you will ever have

Yeah, it also means you can do what you want to a degree. It's certainly not ideal and you only mostly own it. A far cry from what it should be. The alternative is paying for all that stuff and having a landlord that can force you to move somewhere else through a variety of methods and motivations.
