I just talked to my cousin in-law who works in IT/security about this. His suggestion is that it's less about a degree and more about getting certifications; CompTIA A+, CISSP, CCNA, Azure, AWS, etc.
And that often they promote from within, so getting in at the ground/entry level even is a decent goal.
On the other hand, I have been working hard toward learning CS/programming fundamentals, learning one language as much as I can, brushing up on HTML, CSS and learning how to integrate CRUD functionality and using APIs, SQL database access and the like, mainly oriented toward Web-development.
I feel like I need a better base of understanding for algorithms and data structures so I don't get majorly embarrassed in an interview.

Love240 is right, get certs. This is a good site for studying. He also has the same videos free on YouTube, but his quiz structure is great, also many of his questions are directly on the actual cert tests. Get Azure at least till 104, AWS Sysops admin, Google Cloud associate engineer. Then do some ccna or palo alto certs and you will be good.
I left a job 3 years ago. Recently was called by the owner we had a sit down apparently he was having trouble with the 3 new hires he put on after I left and wanted my input.
At least he sort of recognized his mistake, albeit a bit late. Many companies would simply hire more shitskins, blame the evil White man, and beg the gov to cover their operating costs so that they could pass on their profits to their jewish masters.
I think that we are waaaaaay beyond a mere 5x. I think we are a mere 40%-45% of the populace. Take in that only White men contribute to the system over their lifetimes, and that's around ~20% of the population.
Take out old, retired, young, and disabled and I'm betting there're around 5% of real workers doing shit. Everyone else has a daycare job, there to keep them busy and give them other's money for nothing.
The economic system is collapsing under the weight of the parasites. It might as well follow every other system.
