how do i bring up a rise in pay? I feel like i was somewhat lied to about my job

submitted by heytheremyfriends to AskUpgoat 1.7 yearsOct 14, 2023 00:36:25 ago (+5/-0)     (AskUpgoat)

The job pays really well given the current economy. And then every idiot moron started striking, so those pesky UPS drivers make as much as i do now. When i was taken onto this job (engineer), I was told i would be managing ONE team, and my job would be contained to being a lead for that team only. Now the company is going broke, took a nose dive on the stock price, and the company says they love my work. The problem is ... they want me to manage THREE teams whilst still being paid the price for managing one. Technically what they want me to do doens't break the original contract, and I haven't worked there long enough to start demanding more money. So now im torn what to do.

If they are going broke, it’s time to leave.
No one here will say any different.

Tell them "fuck you, pay me"

I mean, not in so many words bud if you're bringing value to them you need to be compensated. I don't know exactly what you do, but I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that it's probably a lot easier to keep you around than it is to find another "you". Bro, don't be afraid to be up front with management. In all likelihood they need you more than you need them, and assertiveness is a very profitable character trait.

Manage those three teams like no one else could. Become irreplaceable. All the while make friends and Network using LinkedIn and other means in your industry. If all is going well ask for more pay. If denied use your reputation and new networking to put feelers out for a new company. Except offers from new company. Then use your leverage to get more pay at your current company.

lmfao, simp for the non White promoting bosses and make them lots of money, save their business, get nothing in writing so they can cut you off after because they will realize you have more power over them then they have over you now and you are a liability later on.

"Except offers"

^non White can't even use fucking english but wants to tell people how to behave lmfao...if you accept an offer from a new company you are moving jobs...you don't "accept" then "call back" and say "hey I was just using your company to gaslight my boss" that will fuck you over long term

There's a couple ways. Just remain chill for 6 months and see where it leads. If it all holds together until then THEN ask for a raise. If it gets too hard before then then that's when you look them in the eye and tell them what you said here.

Hard workers always get fucked the hardest by the management. Let your boss "catch" you looking for another job that pays better. If they're to dumb to get the hint, then be upfront about it. Chance favors the bull.
Just be prepared to go through with it if they call your bluff.
Sounds like they can't afford to lose you and can't afford to pay you. Don't go down with the ship unless you are passionate about the saving the crew

I work with a lot of guys, many of them over value themselves without knowing it. You may be in this group........but maybe not, I don't know you.

and the company says they love my work

Yeah, that's what I tell the guys that are barely worth the cost of replacing them because at current rate....it's just easier to deal with your bullshit than to hire someone elses bullshit.

Maybe you are "that" guy and worth it but there is only one way to find out. Ask for a lot more money, money you think you're worth and they might, MIGHT, offer something less. Or they'll just tell you to walk and might even help you once you've made it known you are more trouble than you're worth.

I am and make my own problems at work, pretty big ones tbh, but I NEVER, EVER, exceed my worth.

Get a better job offer. Demand more money or leave. No matter which happens you win. Fuck the nigger who won’t pay.

Go to the bosses office and slap your dick on his desk.
If he's intimidated, you'll get your raise.
If not, you'll be fired.

Solid advice.

Why would you ask advice from strangers? We don't know your life, finances, Obligation or anything. You should kill you boss and take his place.

A rise in responsibility should come with a rise in compensation.

Almost every company is hiring. Calmly tell the boss what you told us. Be rational and brief. Going from managing one team to three should mean you get a raise of at least 20%, immediately.

If you choose to stay after a raise, delegate team leadership to the smartest one on each team.

Tl,dr,
BE BOLD MAN !
Men are claiming to be women and getting away with it. Claim you're worth more, with conviction.

"I havne't worked there to demand more money"

Yes you have, you can work there for 2 days and if they increase your responsibility, you ask for a pay increase

more work = more money

Are you White? is your boss non White? can they afford to get rid of talented White people right now? if not, then definately use it to your advantage.

The tldr on this one based off my last post is severe mismanagement combined with really bad incompetence. They have 3 teams that need to be managed, but they don’t hire anyone. So now we brought in entry level non devs from qa and are teaching them to be developers. This is a problem because I end up assigning work to them, the work is too hard and I end up doing most of the work for them, or fixing the bugs that are introduced. I’m essentially a lead now, a mentor, assigning tasks, delegating, doing deadlines, doing releases, building out pipelines and coordinating a bunch of stuff I wasn’t really hired to do.

I feel like asking for more money but my push back is that I kinda just started and I don’t want to rock the boat. Most people are losing their job left and right, so I don’t want to be that guy who shoots himself in the foot asking for more money
