I agree with you on most everything and, on this particular topic, I beg to differ.

First thing's first: if your primary exposure to Aikido up to this point has been Steven Seagal, let me say that your point of view is perfectly valid and that I agree with you.

Taking a step back, however, I offer the following perspective which may change your mind: the purpose of Aikido is not to be the ultimate "fuck you up" martial art. The entire philosophy centers around the notion of avoidance of harm while doing the least amount of harm.

The idea being something like this: Envision 3 scenarios, ranked from worst outcome to best.

Attacker strikes, and

1. You stand there and do nothing like a pussy and get KTFO. Congratulations. You are a fag.

2. You side-step and/or block the blow and counter, leading to a series of blows ending in a submission. Congrats. You avoided getting your ass kicked and helped the asshole on the ground understand that you were no one to fuck with. Good job!

3. You avoid the blow, step around the opponent and supplement their forward momentum with your own to "follow through" with the attack. With your opponent off-balance, you firmly guide them to the ground where you assume a dominant position of control. You absolutely can fuck them up if/as necessary, yet you do so from a position of power where no one has yet been hurt. This is your opportunity to reason with your assailant (assuming it is an actual human and not a nigger), asking him something along the lines of "are you sure you want to do this?".

Consider all three scenarios:

The first is the worst possible outcome. You allowed an assailant to assert their will upon you and possibly hurt you. This is less than ideal.

In the second, you prevailed at a cost. Whether that cost ended up being a traumatic experience for a friend or family member or a conversation with police, in the end, even though you succeeded in not allowing an assailant to assert their will upon you, it ended up costing you, or them, something.

In the third scenario, you deftly avoid being abused while doing no harm. You absolutely reserve the right and the ability to do so if and as you see fit, in order to resolve the situation. You are in complete control.

Viewed in that light, Aikido is viewed by some as the highest and best form of martial art precisely because of the reason that many view it as gay; you don't "win" by fucking the other guy up, even if you can.

My philosophy is that there are rules, but of course are also always exceptions to those rules, I use exceptions all the time in my life depending on my personal judgement, not what someone would say should be done. I was saying that in general, from woman's perspective. I never have known a woman beater myself, but heard some pretty pathetic stories about them.

Calm down. Op is right. Act like one get treated like one.
