Umka was born at the Persian Leopard Recovery Center in the Caucasus on this July 8. His birth is initially an achievement, because according to the laws of the wild, the three-legged leopardess Olympia could not become a mother (males kill defective ones). But she did! However, after a while, she began to ignore her baby. In order for him not to die of exhaustion, the specialists of the Center took him for artificial feeding. Now Umka is fed with a special milk formula four times a day and slowly begins to introduce meat into the diet.

The leopard cub will not be able to live independently in the wild because it is not afraid of people. But we all hope that in the future he will become the father of many leopards! When Umka grows up, he will be matched and will participate in breeding as an adult leopard. And who knows, maybe his cubs will become the very stable group that is needed to restore the number of leopards in the Caucasus!
