Every now and again a man likes to share something pleasurable with the bros - something he enjoys - my compost heap.

It's too big and I can't turn it so I need to "bandicoot" the partly broken-down leaf litter and bag it i.e. mine the heap like a gold miner. It got too big because the fire season hit very early and so there's been a mad effort to rake up leaves etc.

Seriously though you know if you run some hex hose through the middle of it and fill it with water or fill it with antifreeze and then circulate that liquid that your compost pile is creating 200° heat inside and you'll get free heat from that water all winter long

Yeah I've read about that but I don't think my heap is hot enough. No kitchen waste/manure in there. But I had a wonderful time sifting the stuff, under the trees, some parrots for company (f..king things (always begging for food)), rain lightly falling - 40mm expected.

There are a lot of small sticks in there that I need to extract. What I do is lop tree branches, cut the side branches from the stem and, if the stem is thick as it usually is, put it out in the green waste, cut the side branches up in small lots and dump the lot in the compost heap and let Mother Nature separate the leaves from the twigs and I bag the leaves or put them in a tub, compress them as much as possible, add some water and in two months I have lovely brown ... something. Soil?
