It's because the media picked the story up and made it national news. Boomer-aged people were talking about this story right after customary weather-talk.

Meanwhile, you could find multiple local cases from Anywhere, USA each month where some feral negro and/or illegal migrant kidnapped a child (or multiple children) and raped and tortured them. Those stories don't get wide circulation, ever.

I knew when this became fodder for World News Tonight with David Muir, it was going to be a heinous-looking white man. It's all so predictable at this point.

Sometimes I wish someone had x-ray vision and could travel the country outing terrible people left and right.
