Where I am in Nor Cal, sycamore trees are everywhere and they do poorly. Disease prone, fragile, messy, etc. I’d li,e to strangle the fucktard who brought this tree to California.

What's the oily ones that you guys got from Australia that burst into flame? The redwood forest is so amazing, if that was all of California I'd be stoked to go to California.

You’re referring to the eucalyptus. Enter @paulneri, who is offended by my distance for the eucalyptus tree. While the wood makes for an excellent alternative to teak for outdoor furniture, it’s useless otherwise. The tree is messy, nothing will grow under it, etc.
my understanding is they were first introduced in and around the Petaluma, Ca area, where a ton of them still exist.

Ah...but what about the fragrance? The wonderful fresh, minty smell of eucalyptus leaves. I've heard that expatriates will sometimes throw some gum leaves on a fire just to remind them of home.
