Not like Mexicans ever got much of a choice. PRI ruled for what like 50 or 100 years, and all the Presidents are still from their upper class. Not that I'm an expert, but they don't get any more choice than we do.

Saw an article posting here, or on conpro this morning stating that an estimated 25% of latinos have jewish DNA.

If true, given that slave owners were mainly jewish, and that more slaves went to those regions, it wouldn't be all that surprising.

After the Jewish diaspora, there is an interesting history of the migration of Jewish "centers" in Europe. One such center in the medieval period until, say, mid-Rennaissance was Spain/Portugal. You don't even really see the emergence of the concept of the Sephardim historically until the Jewish expulsion from Spain in the 15th century. Interestingly, the Allhambra Decree occurred in the same year as "Columbus sailed the ocean blue".

After that, there was a migraton of Jewry to the Mediterranean and to the areas of the Netherlands, broadly speaking. They eventually come to control the Dutch East India Co. Given the exterminations that were going on in the century-long effort to establish the Spanish viceroyalty in the Mexicano Americas, it wouldn't surprise me at all if a significant Jewish genetic element arose. I don't know. I'm not a history afficianado, and it's all really complicated.
