Benefits of Echinacea

submitted by Her0n to Gardening 7 monthsSep 21, 2023 19:32:55 ago (+33/-0)     (Gardening)

TL,DR; I used echinacea root tea to rapidly relieve the symptoms of an URI that has afflicted my family.

One benefit is the effect the root tea has on our upper respiratory system.

My family is sick with some random head cold, I chose to suffer through it since it didn't stop from getting my work done. No fever for me but I've been blowing out "grellow" mucus for a few days.

My three month old and almost two year old have fevers to accompany their sickness. They got to drink some echinacea root tea mixed with their breastmilk and cow milk respectively. Within the hour they both had fevers lower a few degrees and no more fussing. The mucus broke free and after one round of booger-sucking and nose blowing there's no more stuffiness.

If I followed a pediatricians advice, the youngest wouldn't be able to have anything unless we wanted to risk using ibuprofen, which doesn't really help the situation at all. The toddler would have been able to take motrin, which would help with the fever, but nothing else.

I'm glad I chose the echinacea, it's doing so well with helping the boys feel better. I still felt like crap, so I drank the leftovers with my wife. No more headache after 5-10 minutes and my nose is clear.

The plants are gorgeous as well. Mine all have red/orange flowers. I didn't want to harvest them, but the tea was why I planted them to begin.

I suggest this to others if they are so inclined, it worked better than anything I've ever taken, doesn't make me feel like shit either, like cold meds have in the past.

You forgot a benefit. Echinacea is also a zinc innophor. It helps zinc make its way inside your cells where it can inhibit the replication of viruses. It's basically the same mechanism that is theorized for why hydroxichloroquine helps with covid. So if you don't have HCQ you can try Echinacea instead (plus zinc because that's the entire point).

That's probably why it helped us.

I plan to drink it when I'm sick. All I needed was a few sips

I live in Pittsburgh now and they plant that all over CMU campus

[ - ] Her0n [op] 1 point 7 monthsSep 22, 2023 08:34:38 ago (+1/-0)

Harvest them when they are ready and let me know. I'll trade you homegrown chicken eggs for them

[ - ] KyleIsThisTall 1 point 7 monthsSep 22, 2023 09:01:05 ago (+1/-0)

I'm not going into Oakland. Even the nerds at CMU are woke.

Wear a high vis vest and tell them all it's not safe due to a mold infestation.

Have taken for ear infections and Uri's for years. Good job!

[ - ] Her0n [op] 2 points 7 monthsSep 22, 2023 00:00:38 ago (+2/-0)

I'm going to use it any time we are sick now.

[ - ] bobdole9 2 points 7 monthsSep 21, 2023 23:40:19 ago (+2/-0)

Did you start it from seed or transplant?

[ - ] Her0n [op] 2 points 7 monthsSep 22, 2023 00:00:13 ago (+2/-0)

Seeds

[ - ] bobdole9 1 point 7 monthsSep 22, 2023 00:13:48 ago (+1/-0)

Commercially grown seeds or from someone local?

[ - ] Her0n [op] 3 points 7 monthsSep 22, 2023 00:28:51 ago (+3/-0)

I got them from the plants growing in the woods near my house two years ago.

[ - ] BoozyB 2 points 7 monthsSep 21, 2023 22:02:17 ago (+2/-0)

Thanks for the reminder. I would get shot if I dug up our plants, so I think I will find a vendor on eBay to get some for the winter sniffles.

Thanks. You boil in the milk?

or steam in water then combine with milk?

Only echinencea we keep around is in pill form.

We made the tea as usual and added an ounce of tea to the toddlers milk. Half an ounce in the babies milk.

For us we made the tea and added honey and milk for flavor.

I get this green tea from Costco, and they get it from Japan. It helps hangovers and, to a certain degree, colds/flus. I'll have to stock some Echinacea tea as well.

[ - ] dassar 1 point 7 monthsSep 22, 2023 00:47:12 ago (+1/-0)

Sounds like good stuff.
I actually take a high dose herbal Echinacea, elder berry and Olive leaf extract for myself and two young sons with our daily regime.

I haven't considered growing olives yet, would be good to make my own oil.

[ - ] PotatoWhisperer2 0 points 7 monthsSep 22, 2023 08:29:58 ago (+0/-0)

Don't the trees take 80 years to mature?

[ - ] Her0n [op] 1 point 7 monthsSep 22, 2023 08:32:00 ago (+1/-0)

I don't know a damn thing about them to be honest. I'm not an olive guy. If so, my grandkids might be able to enjoy them!

This boosts my confidence. I have greenhouses that are half underground and warm the air beneath the frost line.

I will try growing some olive trees in pots so I can move them into a shed during the winter. I think that's a fair method when experimenting, if they do well I'll dig out another greenhouse.

People like you are always giving me more work to do, can't I have a day off?

Joking aside, I'm excited to learn more about the olive trees, time for some deep diving.

There's is no woe with this, I love growing things and rising to the challenges involved!

I would only be looking for olives to render into oil, we don't care much for table olives in my household.

Ok, thanks. Yea, it's all a work in progress, so i'm certainly not adverse to learning/ altering - and perhaps do some more online reading/ research as well.

I always recommend vitamins C, D, and zinc, but I'm sure there are plenty of plants that both give your immune system some of what it needs to do its job and have some effect on whatever's messing up your body.

[ - ] Her0n [op] 3 points 7 monthsSep 22, 2023 00:46:56 ago (+3/-0)

Ever since I swapped to eating only things I can make/grow myself I've been doing a lot better in many ways.

At the lockdowns of 2019/2020 (whenever they were) - i quit all goy slop/ take aways/ processed sugar/ candy/ soda/ coffee/ seed oils etc.
Basically, revamped my entire diet, filtered water/ organic green tea/ grass fed meat/ butter/pure dripping - plenty of fresh spinach/ garlic etc etc.
Dropped several pharmas, 2x ssri's/ a statin/ three or four different blood pressures.
Supplement daily with quality essential Vitamins/ minerals/ antioxidants/ NAC and 3-4 amino acids
spent months online reading and researching - for dosing, contradictions, best time to take, what to pair with etc.

Three years later dropped 30 kgs - only do light exercise, sits ups, crunches and stretching.
Blood pressure dropped and stabilized.
Previous decades long crippling anxiety/ chronic depression/ suicidal idealation etc all but dissappeared.
Was a slow fat bloated sickly goy with zero energy and easily frustrated and confused.
Literally night and day.
Imo, so much of peoples physical/ mental health can be 'healed' via diet and consuming appropriate foods.
Pharma, while it may benefit some for a limited period without side effects, really amounts to just suppressing symptoms and causing other issues to present, thus requiring ever more pharma to counter act [insert new side effect].

Chamomile is pretty good too.

[ - ] Her0n [op] 1 point 7 monthsSep 22, 2023 00:44:32 ago (+1/-0)

My experience with that is it only makes me sleepy. The plants look cool though!

[ - ] UncleDoug 1 point 7 monthsSep 22, 2023 01:35:15 ago (+1/-0)

They are both Asteraceae and are both very similar in therapeutic qualities.

Treating hay fever, asthma, inflammation, wound healing, gastrointestinal disorders, and correcting for poor sleep.

[ - ] Her0n [op] 1 point 7 monthsSep 22, 2023 01:45:25 ago (+1/-0)

Good to know, thank you. "Chamonacea" tea here I come!

You have the reddit app on your phone, so I'm just going to assume you're some sort of kike or retarded person.

I didn't realize I was talking to the gatekeeper of all things faggot.

Did you have to go to college for that or what?

[ - ] bosunmoon 0 points 7 monthsSep 22, 2023 16:44:13 ago (+0/-0)

Do I seem like a rookie gatekeeper to you?
Of course I went to college for it.
Puss nuts.
