'Upgoat' only makes sense to an 'in-crowd' of users who get the references to OG Voat. It is a inside joke and does nothing to market this site as a free speech discussion forum. 'Voat' and 'Talk' both invoked a sense of what the site is without relying on a shibboleth

I've mentioned this place to people many times, but Voat isn't very appealing to people, and this site is basically an extension of Voat. Most of the people who made old Voat good went back to image boards and forums.

There are basically two problems here

1) The reddit format sucks
Voat got popular in the early days because reddit's decline was becoming obvious and people were looking for an alternative. These days reddit is a monster full of retards who are happy in that shitty place. All of the people who would use a site like this left reddit many years ago and most of them have realized that the format sucks anyway.

2) Free Speech sites aren't rare anymore
There are a ton of sites where I can call someone a nigger now. zzzchan.xyz, Smugloli.net, RPG Codex, RPGHQ.org, ect. Why would anyone want to come to a site like this that uses the reddit format and has a userbase is full of the most retarded people from Voat?

Personally I only come here for news these days and most of it is stuff I saw on forums hours or days before it was posted here.
