Looking for a specific word that I cannot remember. Saw it on Voat a long time ago.

It's a word used to describe someone that uses "think of the children" argument. I swear it was a word. It was a variation of pederast or something like that. Does anyone know what I'm talking about? I'm literally scouring the web for anything and I am coming up blank.

Logical fallacy?

That is the term, yes. But people here (voat) kept using a single word, I think it started with a P, but not 100% sure. I don't know maybe I am not remembering properly, or someone misused a word. Thanks for the help, though.

Dunning Kruger Effect is well played at these venues, generally to excess. They use ALTS to feed it.

I've wracked my brain, but having little knowledge of Greek, the best I can come up with are pederopathy and pederomiseria.

The logical argument of appealing to sympathy is "ad misericordiam" that is an appeal to the emotions or sympathies. This really interests me, so I'm going to start from there, not from the pederast angle, but from the viewpoint of identifying those who make that argument. Anyone who uses the phrase "As a parent" or similar is using that rhetoric.

This is a good ask. Thanks.

That sounds like pathos - it can be a basis for fallacies such as:

appeal to emotion or
appeal to sentiment, also known as argumentum ad passiones

Also emotional prosody

You could refer to one who uses pathos as pathetic

Prurient? having or encouraging an excessive interest in sexual matters

That's one word you might come up with for a person who thinks of children with a pederastic focus.
