I was watching the Bernalillo County Sheriff make a statement regarding the New Mexico Governors illegal proclamation.

While I admire his stance regarding The Constitution I take exception with the rank on his uniform.

He was wearing 5 stars on each shoulder and 5 gold stripes on each sleeve. His subordinates had 4 gold stripes. Thats more rank than the entire Pacific Fleet command had in WWII.

General Macarther wore 5 stars and he commanded a million men in combat! General Eisenhower wore 5 stars. In all US history there have been 5 five star generals. I called the Bernalillo Co. Sheriffs Dept. The man is in charge of 200 sworn officers.

These Sheriffs and police chiefs need to stop posing.

There is a video somewhere on YouTube that talks about the decoration enhancements since wwii. They use Miley and some others as examples. I assume the same is true with the above.

There are people that serve and people that serve their own interests.

His goal was to be promoted as much as possible but not actually serve or lead.

The Sherrif is an elected position. People don't get "promoted" into it. Blame the idiots that voted for him.

Gold stripes is typically years of service. Not sure what the stars are for. Usually rank pins are on the collar

Below the Sheriff is the Chief Deputies in my county there is 5 Chief Deputies under the Sheriff.

It's a costume. It's pretentious considering how small a county Bernalillo county is, but that's all it is. The costume doesn't grant the office with any power or jurisdiction outside of his small county. Consider that this may be their misguided homage to MacArthur.
