Well, my catbox caching proxy is dead

Proxies probably look like a denial of service attack. I'm sticking with catbox, because while they have the occasional hiccup, they are pernicious bastards and always come back up. And they've been targeted by big players for not censoring enough, so they must be doing something right.

The proxy caches the request in this case, so it prevents duplicate requests from hitting catbox, forming an 'origin shield' of sorts, where the origin is catbox.

Yes, but it also funnels requests in from one IP address for the first hit. It looks like an unusual bunch of traffic coming from one IP. So does the site admin know that this is supposed to reduce traffic?

And let's say he knows: as a site owner, would you want all your users to get in the habit of visiting somebody else's front end site instead, for which you are just the backend? Then this other site starts hosting images, and catbox becomes an afterthought.

They make up for it in volume.

My guess is that they just want to run a service. But they should make it easier for others to help improve that service for their ecosystem. If I was catbox I'd be releasing code to help people proxy the site if they want more public utility per own cost.

Oh yeah fuck catbox... I've been saying. They're doing it for free, so use someone else who wants to do it for free. No harm all around.

It sounds sort of like having a UPS; worthless if the mains power is never on, yet also worthless if the mains power is always on.

Reach out to them and see what's up. It's just one guy running the whole thing.

Time for you to get behind a bunch of tor proxies

Jokes on me. Tor can't connect to catbox.

I’ve got a cheap solution for you if ipv6 connects to cat box - linode
