A big brain is need for the cold so your brain doesn't freeze. Notice Eskimos have a big brain 90 IQ vs 60 IQ in Africa.

They evolved to shed heat and had less calories available.

Parasites probably also inhibit mental ability. They were surrounded by low IQ archaic man they likely interbred with.
